Virtual Weather Station Version 13.00p14

With the support of a patient and helpful customer, the issue with lock-ups (where the menu freezes and the program is non-responsive), memory leaks (caused by threads opening but not closing) and other related issued caused by this problem (increased CPU useage and ftp functionality problems) are now solved! I was able to reproduce the issue with increased thread and VM loss. I ran this version for 24 hours with no noticable loss in Virtual Memory.

Here is the download link:

Also , the launch default browser function in previous versions is now fixed.

Virtual Weather Station Version 13.00p13 was a no-go... lucky #13 I guess :-)

I went from v13 p02 to p14 and it's been running high on the cpu, but it always has on my machine. Hasn't hindered any uploads/downloads/mesomaps/noaa data ,etc. I do notice just a touch of slowness in the main gui, but nothing hangs or stops working.

Of course I never had a problem with p02 either. Thanks for the great work Ed.

Hi WJ4S,

Rapid Fire and FTP uploads run independently, and should not have an affect on each other. Are you getting the LED flashing on the display?

Greg,

There is a low CPU setting if you select Settings | Program Settings. I see CPU useage from 0-30% but it does not surprise me if you see even higher because of all the functionaliy built into the program - communication, displays, internet read and writes, ftp functionality and lots of calculations.

Ooops I forgot that I set it to "high" since the machine is dedicated to VWS. Probably another reason why I've always seen it run high - Hello Greg you set it that way! All has been well with every verison for me, but may be attributed to no AV, no sofware firewall and no extras that may hinder communications.

WJ4S,

What error messages are you getting in your error log? I suspect it is completely independent of this and it may be just timing out.

Write me directly at support@ambientweather.com and perhaps we can work on this.

Don,

The wflash.txt file updates ok, but at midnight, the wflash2.txt on your local computer does not update? Or is it just the file on the server? Are you using the asp or the ftp function?

Regards,

Ed

Rich,

It sounds the WeatherUnderground update is not timing out... I will look into a fix - I moved this out of a separate thread to prevent the whole programming from freezing.

Don,

wflash2.txt updates every minute, wflash.txt updates all of the time.

I did not see any changes in this code, but I will try to reproduce it. You are using asp or ftp?

Don,

Can you email me directly? support@ambientweather.com. I would like to work one on one to get all of the information. If you are using ftp, it may be timing out...

That is great. There are a few problems remaining, but I am going to release it as a formal release this weekend because (a) it is better and (b) customers are starting to ask for WMR-100 support.

Ed - You keep doing great stuff. Working fine here after a little 'touch-up' of the station settings.
