Virtual Weather Station Version 13.00p17

Finally, I figured out the problem with WeatherFlash. There is a size limitation (2048 bytes) defined in the Windows Internet API (wininet). The URL length would exceed 2048 bytes for the wflash2 string (which contains all of the high and low data).

This limitation was ignored by my old compiler, but my new compiler would not write a string larger then 2048 bytes. I changed this limit to 4196 and everyting works now. One month on the same problem - ouch.

Here is the download link:

http://www.wunderground.com/autoasp/downloads/vws_install.exe

I have also mistakenly removed the priority option for ftp transfers. This option was added again to the FTP General Settings.

By the way, there is a lot of mention to why the ftp transfers take so long. The issue is that it takes about 80% of the time to convert your screen image to the jpeg image and only 20% of the time to upload this image.

Thus, the ftp functionality is not necessarily slow, but creating a jpeg image from a bitmap image is.

I can not explain why it was slower with the last few builds, except for the aforementioned accidental deletion of the FTP General Settings FTP Priority.

Barry,

I put the WeatherFlash and the Weather Underground updates in the same thread so if the Weather Underground takes longer to update (or visa versa) the WeatherFlash will also be affected. In other words, the WeatherFlash is affecting the Wundeground. I will change this back. However, write me directly at support@ambientweather.com and we will investigate the memory issue.

Hi Ed,

In v13.00 p17 I added the Cable 2 image on screen and could not close its setting's dialog box with the close button or the X. Had to close VWS and reopen it. Image did not save when program was reopened.

I could not reproduce this with the Cable 1 image.

Hi Ambient Weather:

I installed version 13.00p17 a few nights ago and I noticed VWS went offline for me today. Upon troubleshooting, I noticed after a VWS service kill and restart that I'm receiving an error message that "Program has expired. Enter license number." I'm a licensed owner and have done these upgrades before without incident. Just wondering if this is the expected behavior moving forward??? Unfortunately, I'm at work, away from my home VWS system, and my license number is in the closet (hopefully I can find it). Reply to stickmanrunner87@yahoo.com.

Thanks,
Alan

Hi Alan,

I will email you directly. What is very concerning is the program locked up on you. I wrote a lot of code to prevent this. I have never been able to reproduce lock-ups on 5 computers and 5 operating systems, so this is very frustrating. And some of the customers experiencing the problem can't stomach the troubleshooting required.

I hope to find someone with regular lock-ups that are willing to assist me in tracking down the problem.

Ed,

Just wanted to add that as of today I have also lost the ability to have regularly scheduled wx reports sent to me via email. My email host is fine as I am sending and receiving regularly. I tried a manual send from VWS and it worked the first time, but the manual test has not worked since (about 10 tries in an hour). Also had trouble closing this window as well, but after three clicks of the close button it decided it would go away.

Ok so I started getting the emails again today, sorry Ed. Not sure what the deal was. ISP was ok via email client and there were no errors in the log(s).

The other issue is still valid regarding the cable tv2 jpeg.

Ed,

Another slight issue possibly with this version. From Lonnie on the Ambient WX forums:

"not sure if this if VWS or WU but in VWS program WUNDERGROUND>5-DAY FORECAST my forecast says
SUN MON WED THU FRI and leaves out TUE. I checked some of the other sites locally but all were older versions of VWS but all were ok."

I can confirm that I am seeing the same thing. Forecast is Sun, Mon, WED, Thurs, Fri

Sorry that the download link was not available. I decided to release Version 13.00p18 because I needed to get it out due to the release of the new WMR-100 weather station. I am still working on a couple of lock up problems.

Very good program and have been using for a year and a half.

Is there a place I could go to learn to customize the web page to include an occasional message (such as when lightning struck my station and I was down?) so that the peeps know what is going on? It would also be cool to include the webcam pic that I finally got to work on WU.

Thanks for all the good work.
