Virtual Weather Station Version 13.00p20

I updated this version based on some issues that John Norman was experiencing.

Under Internet Network Connection, if you select Use Default Connection, there was a flag that would not get set and would cause the FTP transfers to timeout. This flag is now properly initialized.

I went to an updated compiler and it appears to be less forgiving. Thanks for the help, John!

I also addressed some lock-up problems (I have never been able to reproduce them and it could be OS dependent or processor dependent). Microsoft has notes on multi-processing and XP appears to be more stable then other operating systems, but I need to support these OS.

And now for some benchmarks (which I will be adding to each build). Your results will vary.

1. CPU: About 14-28%
2. Mem Usage: 20,000 K
3. Peak Mem Usage: 30,000 K
4. VM: 68,000 K
5. Threads 6 - 9

This appears to be better then most weather applications out there (not all but most :-)

Don,

I am forced to reboot if I don't use "ADD/REMOVE" from CP. I download the latest version, shutdown VWS cleanly then run the installer.

It uninstalls current version then asks to be rebooted. I reboot, run installer again. It installs and asks for another reboot.

So I reboot again and VWS starts automatically when I logon again. The one thing I've had issues with in the past two versions was the COMM for CH1 (my garage temp). It won't communicate for hours then magically it snaps back into place.

Sorry to be so long winded.
Ed - Nice job again on development and support of your user base. This is a value add that most companies don't have.

Woody and I spoke over the phone. He is having an issue with his hosting service, NOT VWS.

Hanford,

No Hanford, I made no changes. It appears perhaps your ISP fixed some issues with smtp to allow it to work.

I've been running p20 for 30 hours without lock-ups or license expiration messages. I will continue to monitor system resources and report any anomalies.

Hi Hanford,

This is normal - it uses the database to find the hourly rain. I could make an improvement and count the first database record.

Hi. I’m still having the same problem where after running VWS v13p20 for a few days, I suffer a hang. When I reboot to reestablish a connection to my Davis Vantage Pro2, VWS reports my license has expired. Specifically, Program expired Program has expired. Enter license Number. After digging through e-mail order confirmation archives, I find the key and reactivate, but this is a scenario that repeats itself every 2-3 days. This is a pain in the behind. How do I go about keeping VWS from hanging and my registration information persistent?

E-mail me at stickmanrunner87@yahoo.com.

Thanks,
Alan

Alan,

Please email me directly at support@ambientweather.com to discuss the issues you are having.

The hanging issue may be a problem with your USB verison of WeatherLink, but we can discuss.

The other issue sounds like you have a folder designated as read only.

I am having nothing but problems with this software. I have lost my data numerous times and I am about to the point of just unloading the sofeware and attempt to get all my money back.

How do I keep my data from being corrupted by this program?

I have installed the VWS and it is connected to a Oregon WMR-100. I've noticed that the rain information shows a total value (.41") - however the daily and monthly totals are zero.

Is there some option that needs to be specified to get those values to update? I'm running the P20 version.

I've been testing V 12.07p55 for a few days on a PIII and only recording inside-outside temperatures, humidty and barometer from a WMR968 with a refresh rate of 300 seconds. The problem is VWS uses 98% of my CPU so I cannot use it for other things like webcam surveillance. Is this a general problem with VWS? And is there a 'simpler' program that would just log inside-outside temperatures plus humidty and barometer once every hour using a minimum of CPU resources?

I've been running VWS v13.00p20 and I found that it fixed most of my gripes, however, ftp uploading to my website has taken a turn for the worse. It was working fine before, but now it works for a two or three days and then I get a message in the ftp log "Maximum number of ftp connections already open". This comes after numerous system socket errors. Any idea what has happened?
